Electronic Projects for the Raspberry Pi: Book 2 - Interfacing to Analogue Signals

The projects in this book are all about using an external ADC and then interfacing to a number of sensors to make measurements. Project 1 – measuring voltageproject 2 - temperature measurement using the tmp36project 3 – resistance measurementproject 4 - measuring temperature using a ThermistorProject 5 - Measuring Light Level using a Light Dependent ResistorProject 6 – Measuring Force using a Force Sensing ResistorProject 7 - Measuring Voltage of a Car BatteryProject 8 – Measuring Low VoltagesProject 9 - Measuring Power Using a Current ClampProject 10 - Measuring Sound Level Using a Microphone.

Reading analogue signals is very useful in a multitude of applications. For example many sensors output an analogue signal that is proportional to the stimuli being measured like temperature, light, pressure and sound level. The raspberry pi gpio does not have any Analogue to Digital Converters ADC to allow this to be measured directly.

Zen of Analog Circuit Design

Zen of analog circuit design recently updated with new contentfrom 2011 till 2013, i taught a course titled Analog Design for all which covered concepts starting with MOS transistors and progressed till the design of two-stage amplifiers. Struggling with his relationships, his guiding light is Ang-Lao, who teaches him the secret to happy relationships.

For some, this book will signal the end of the fear of Analog. The inherent challenge in getting even a simple two-transistor circuit to work is the conflict arising from having two such current source-like elements in series. Having understood the complications involved, we see how through the strikingly simple but immensely powerful concept of feedback, one of the two transistors can be modified subtly to make it behave like a voltage source.

Concepts coveredoi-v characteristics of voltage & current sourcesoideal & non-ideal sourcesocontrolled sourcesoactive and passive elementsoi-v characteristics of a mosfet oMOS transistor as a Voltage controlled current sourceoDigital inverter as Analog amplifieroOperating pointoCommon source CS amplifieroEffect of loading on a CS amplifieroFeedbackoHow can you make a MOSFET behave like a voltage source?oSynthesis of a CS amplifier with diode-connected loadoAnalysis of a V2I circuit including an introduction to current mirroroSynthesis of CS amplifier with gm-loadoSynthesis of source follower circuitoSmall signal parameters: gm, gdsoSmall-signal gain and output impedance oSynthesis of a differential amplifieroSynthesis of an Operational amplifier oRealizing the buffer using the Operational Amplifier.

For others, it will be the start of a love story. From the i-v curve of the mos transistor, we see how it behaves much like a Voltage controlled current source VCCS. The narrative switches between concepts of Electronics and the story of Aman-Ra, an engineer from Medieval Egypt. But why a ‘zen of analog’…?because the foundational concepts in Analog closely mirror human relationships! The purpose of this book is to take a simplified and intuitive path to unlock some profound secrets of Analog.

Remote Sensor Monitoring by Radio with Arduino: Detecting Intruders, Fires, Flammable and Toxic Gases, and Other Hazards at a Distance

Mistakes in code have been corrected so all sketches compile now, grammatical mistakes corrected, etc. For the radio communications, we will use the nRF24L01 transceiver. If you have any problem running them, you can contact the author at Leithauser@aol. Com. These will include intruders, fires, power failures, temperature extremes both hot and cold, flammable gases, floods including minor “floods” like a pipe bursting, toxic gases like pollution, and other situations.

Thus, this books provides ideas for how to use the nRF24L01 transceiver for many purposes. Although the techniques described in this book will work with any type of sensor input, the book will focus on sensors that detect potentially dangerous or disruptive conditions. This inexpensive chip usually around $1.

00 on ebay interfaces easily with the Arduino and can both transmit and receive data. You can put the arduino sensor package miles away from the receiving station, in your front or back yard, or even in your home like your basement or attic. The chapters will be divided by hazards you can monitor, not specific sensors, so one chapter may include several different types of sensors that can be used to detect the same hazard.

Note: this book has been rewritten to correct the errors reported in some reviews. However, 000 meters 1 km, with an optional antenna the range is reported to be 1, about .

Arduino: Display Interfacing

Display interfacing with Arduino gives you lots of ideas for Arduino projects and helps you get going on them right away. This valuable little book offers a inside view on display interfacing with arduino platform that's taking the design and hobbyist world by storm. From simple display to touch screen all the information you need is right in the book.

Building Your Own Arduino Shields:: Interfacing with the Arduino Using Basic Components

Connecting heavy loads to the outputs is also discussed. Although it will be helpful if you already have a basic knowledge of electronics, this book provides a basic background, like reading schematics and choosing components. All of the components used in this book can be purchased cheaply on eBay or Amazon, as well as other electronics outlets.

Heavy emphasis is placed on connecting sensors not originally designed for Arduinos to the analog inputs, as well as connecting signals other than 5 volts to digital inputs. Protecting your arduino is the topic of one chapter, and specific tips for doing this are given for individual circuits throughout the book.

This book shows you how to connect sensors and other devices to your Arduino inputs and outputs using basic components like resistors, diodes, transistors, and op-amps. This is a practical guide to designing electronic circuits to connect to your Arduino. Although you can buy a wide range of shields for Arduino, making your own will not only save you money, it will give you more flexibility and control of your designs.

. Dozens of generalized circuits that you can modify for your needs are shown, complete with the necessary equations to select the proper component values for your needs.
